I keep saying I am never going to work with Beech again, as - especially when turning - the end grain is virtually impossible to sand completely smooth. It fares much better as a cheeseboard. I made this by gluing together four strips of Beech (two of which were quite dark on the outside of the board), then carving out the initials, before carving out the actual letter shapes in Walnut, before inlaying into the smooth surface of the Beech Cheeseboard.
I am very please with the way this turned out, although the handle had to be made slightly smaller, as my router bit managed to gouge out a big chunk of end-grain (because I tried to take too deep a cut!)
This small business malarkey is definitely a learning process for me...
